Chiller Consumes more Energy in order to Compensate for Scale Fouling of its Condenser

 

  1. Chiller’s compressor’s works harder in order to compensate for the loss of Heat transfer efficiency caused by scale and fouling in the condenser tubes.
  2. Because it works harder, the compressor consumes more energy.
  3. Philip Kotz found that a scale layer of 0.3 mm thick on condenser’s tube surface causes 10% increase of energy consumption of the chillier power.
